SLTA JUNIOR ACADEMY

Our Junior Academy is for students in Elementary and Middle School. All of our Junior Academy shows are shorter versions of full-production shows. This allows students an introduction to theatre life. Rehearsals for our Fall Junior shows start three months before a show opens and run every Friday from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. with daily rehearsals the week of the show. Rehearsals for our Spring KIDS show start two months before the show opens with rehearsals every Friday from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and daily rehearsals the week of the show.

In addition to a Fall Junior show and our Spring KIDS show, we offer a summer camp intensive in June. This is a two-week intensive with rehearsals Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. We end our summer camp intensive with a production of a Junior Academy show.

SLTA SENIOR ACADEMY

Our Senior Academy is for students in Middle and High School. All of our Senior Academy shows are full production shows, introducing our older Academy students to true theatre life. Rehearsals begin six weeks before a show opens and run Monday through Friday from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

When actors aren’t training and rehearsing, they are given the opportunity to perform within the community as a community service. We are proud to have performed for the Shriner’s Hospital, Norton Art Gallery, Shreve Memorial Library, The Oaks Retirement System, and at Barksdale Air Force Base. We love to foster the spirit of community at our community theatre (one of the longest running community theaters in the nation) and feel the best way to foster that spirit is to give back to the community.

Each year we honor one senior academy student with the Shelburne White Award for Academy Theatre Excellence. Named after Academy members Clare Shelburne and Christopher White, The Shelburne White award is given to a Senior Academy student noted not only for their excellence as a stage performer but also excellence in leadership skills, initiative to go above and beyond what is asked, and is a mentor to fellow actors. The award is voted on by the Academy Staff and members of the Senior Academy. The Shelburne White Award for Academy Theatre Excellence is presented annually at the SLT Bravo Awards.
